So You Think You Can Draw Comics?

5 Aug

2009 is proving to be quite a good year for aspiring comic artists to test their mettle. With the Bakat Baru Competition by Art Square just over, we still have another challenge in the form of the MyManga Competition.

This may be the first time the MyManga competition has been held, but it sure is garnering quite a lot of attention. Even though it has an RM10 price tag for every entry submitted, it stands out from the more established Bakat Baru Competition because it allows participants to submit more than one entry as long as you pay the entry fee for each. That, and their rule of having speech bubbles and dialog boxes drawn directly onto the page totally scores brownie points from me. You can join as long as you’re above 7 years of age and reside in Malaysia. The closing date is on the 9th of October 2009 before 5pm. The entry form for the MyManga competition can be found here. For the full set of rules, faqs, and all other information relating to the competition, please visit their official site that is fully in English.

Admittedly, I find the pair of eyes staring back at you on their main page rather disturbing (along with the blood red background) but don’t let that stop you from taking part!

    Thank goodness the deadline is not somewhere around September. More time for me. ^^;

    I think you’re allow to submit as many entries as you want for the Bakat Baru, provided you submit it with an entry form everytime(I think). But either way, I totally agree with you on MyManga being more attractive. XD I mean 12 pages it’s 6 times 2 and hand drawn dialogue bubbles FTw.

      Apparently they allow you to submit more than one, but in the end only the best out of all your submissions will be chosen to contest for the prize. Which means, no matter how many you send in, they will only consider one out of all you’ve sent in which they think is the best. That’s a very subjective criteria if you ask me.

        I thought that’s usually the case for competition which allows more than 1 entry? Lol.

        Hmm, I’m sure that they ultimately allow a person to win one prize at the end of the day, but at least from what I understand from MyManga’s rules is that they will at least compare all your stories with the rest of the entries first instead of just choosing one out of all your entries submitted to compete with the others.
